Who are we?
Age Concern Romsey and District - helps to meet the needs and interests of older people in the Romsey and District area. We cover Romsey Town itself as well as the whole of Southern Test Valley, including Abbotswood, Sherfield English, Braishfield, Timsbury, Lockerley, Wellow, Ampfield, Awbridge, North Baddesley, Nursling and Rownhams, part of Valley Park and other villages and localities

We formed in 1989 to recognise the impending explosion nationally of the over-60s population to some 19 million people by 2031 (which is one-third of the total UK population!). Our work included supporting older people to come together to support each other and indicate their needs. This resulted in Age Concern working with other groups and organisations to provide services that older people had requested. In 1996 we worked with the Over 60s club to take over their hall and carry on their legacy.

We have over 30 people actively involved with the running of the organisation including trustees, part-time workers, volunteers and helpers.

Why we are here?
We are here to:

  • Promote the well-being of all older people
  • Help make their lives a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.
  • Support older people to live as independently as possible.
  • Provide a range of activities and services for older people
This could include community based activities at our Hall in Linden Road Romsey or supplying 'Home Help', Gardening and Information/Advice and Signposting services. Many of these services are designed to help older people remain in their homes for as long as possible by supporting their domestic and social needs.

Activities at the Linden Road Hall
For many years we have provided an extensive range of activities and services for older people at the Age Concern Hall in Linden Road. These range from lunches, teas, soup and roll, afternoon activities, as well as bingo, exercise classes and foot clinics and not forgetting our very popular monthly tea dance and special festive events. We have something going on every weekday and sometimes at weekends. See the events page for details.
